Sited within the cultural precinct in Northbridge, walking distance to the train station, the hotel is well positioned to engage with the artistic, cultural and dining opportunities at its doorstep. A two storey, timber and steel window relates to the pedestrian scale at the street level. A pleated curtain of perforated, bronze anodised aluminum shrouds the upper level of the William St. elevation ‘blurring’ the mass of the building while also shading the western facade.
The design intention was to create a relaxed environment that encourages guests to inhabit the communal areas: lobby, mezzanine and outdoor terraces. Staff and guests are placed on the same side of the ‘counter’ when checking in, or standing next to the person making the coffee.
