A narrow portal off King Street leads to a space long hidden from public view—a forgotten upper floor within a former warehouse.
King Street Ascension
This project brings that space back into the life of the city, creating a moment of reveal and a sense of quiet drama in the transition from street to first floor. The approach is simple: respect the original building, make the new work legible, and allow both to coexist with clarity and purpose.
A new staircase and glass elevator are inserted as distinct, contemporary elements, providing universal access while marking the threshold between old and new. The stair acts as a sculptural device, inviting visitors upward with a sense of theatre; the lift offers a more playful moment, a transparent vertical journey through the volume of the building.
Materials and finishes are kept honest and restrained, allowing the heritage fabric to remain the anchor. The result is a refreshed first-floor tenancy that is independent of the ground-floor operations yet deeply connected to the character of the original warehouse. What was once an unused, disconnected upper level is now an appealing commercial space—one that celebrates its past while stepping confidently into new use.
